About Us

Audrey & Jim Pitt

Our names are Audrey & Jim Pitt and we live on a private estate on the banks of the river Doon Ayr Scotland.  It is a lovely setting as we live within walking distance of the famous Alloway churchyard and Burns Cottage.

Audrey owns her own small home help/domestic cleaning business having had many years with the NHS. I have worked for several years as a support worker in both mental health and learning disability field.

Our interest in having a cat (although I have had cats most of my younger life) began when we bought a five year old Bengal boy from Lanakshire in Scotland.   Unfortunately we lost our Bengal called Bradley on a quiet road, and ever since then all our cats are strictly indoor as will be any kittens we sell unless they are provided with a secure outdoor enclosure. We also have a wee moggie called Holly who lives with our family of maine coons indoors. She seems to think she is a maine coon and behaves like one!

At this time one weekend when we were looking for something to do we seen a cat show advertised that weekend in Edinburgh. On arriving at the show we immediately went to the Bengal section and spent some time admiring these beautiful cats before setting off to see the many other breeds available.

That was when our lives changed for ever. We had reached the Maine coon section where we saw the biggest most beautiful cats either of us had ever set eyes on. Both our minds were made up on the spot. We were going to have Maine Coon cats. This is where the problems began.

Audrey contacted most if not all the Maine Coon breeders in Scotland and a lot in England too. The problem was that if we had wanted a kitten as a pet only then we could have got a kitten fairly quickly but whenever we mentioned that we also wanted to breed and show then it was a firm no!! We found this hard to understand as I had bred and showed exhibition budgies and Audrey had bred and showed dogs quite successfully with no problems getting started up.

I have to say that it was Audreys perseverance that got us started in the end as by this stage I was ready for giving up on the idea altogether.

Then one night as most nights for the past few months Audrey was on the computer and phone looking for and phoning about Maine Coons when she spoke to a lovely lady called Terrie. Audrey explained our predicament to Terrie and initially she was reluctant but at least unlike most of the breeders we had contacted Terrie took the time to ask a lot of questions about us and told us that she would need to think about our request.

We were both delighted when Terrie did phone back and told us she was going to entrust us with a lovely female kitten on the active list. It meant a wait of nearly 3 months for our first kitten and a round trip of over 700 miles but none of that mattered we were about to own our first Maine Coon.

We have managed to obtain other Maine Coons but the help and Trust that Terrie has given us will always remain very special to us both. We have since bought a lovely stud boy from Terrie and a mischievous red/silver girl who we hope will play a big part in our breeding program for years to come.

We hope you enjoy our website as it grows over the coming months.
